Antimicrobial activity of Xylopia pancheri Baill. Leaf extract against susceptible and resistant Staphylococcus aureus
Abstract
Antibacterial activity of Xylopia pancheri Baill. (Annonaceae) leaf extract was investigated against susceptible Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and extended-spectrum-β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Results showed that X. pancheri leaf extract displayed antibacterial activity against S. aureus with higher inhibitory effect on MRSA compared to control gentamycin antibiotic, and IC50 value of 36.97 μg/mL [95%CI:29.59–46.18] against MRSA.
