EFFECT OF PSEUDOMONAS SP. S-17 RHAMNOLIPID ON HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS TYPE 2

Abstract

Rhamnolipid PS-17 is ramnose-containing glicolipid and biosurfactant pro- duced by Pseudomonas sp. S-17. The biosurfactant activity has been deter- mined against herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) in vitro. No inactivation of virus infectivity after pretreatment with rhamnolipid PS-17 was observed. The compound in concentrations below its critical micelle concentration was found to be an active inhibitor of HSV-2 replication in Madin-Darby bovine kidney cells (MDBK). Thus, rhamnolipid PS-17 is perspective for a combined therapy of virus infections.
